We are in the first lull of the year after a pretty hectic first couple of months. This is also the busiest time of the year in the National Hunt season. We've just had Cheltenham, Aintree and the Grand National is next week then the Irish National followed by the finale at Punchestown. Alex has posted this update on each of the club horses.
"I caught up with our head lad Simon, to get the latest on the racing club horses.
Tapenade came out of his race in Wexford on St.Patrick’s Day well. He had a few easy days after his run and was eased back into work. He has been in great form at home. He was entered for Limerick this coming Sunday but was unfortunately balloted out. He is ready to run and just waiting for something suitable to come up.
Clonard Abbey has been working well at home. She travelled to Naas on Tuesday this week to gallop and it was reported that she went very well. She is another one who is ready run when something suitable comes along for her.
Smiling Eliza came out of her race back in February very well. Obviously she had a busy time since the summer and we have held off running her just to give her a little bit of a break. She has still been in full work at home and is very well in herself. She will more than likely have an entry in Fairyhouse or Punchestown.
Flat to the Max is an exciting addition to the racing club. He is a very handsome fella with loads of personality. He is doing well at home and has been in good form in himself. He was entered for Navan at the weekend but unfortunately he did not qualify for the race as he was not handicapped but there will be plenty of suitable opportunities for him.
Pats Oscar took it easy after her fall in Ayr back in February, she has been cantering away steady and we will look to step her work back up in the coming weeks.
Cornakill Rose is in good form at home and doing plenty. She is ready to receive another entry when something suitable comes up".
It's worth noting how much our string has changed in 12 months, if you look at the club horse update from last year
here.
Edit: "Sorry we missed Shirley’s Gold Well off the report on Friday. She has been in one of our pre-training yards as we have been concentrating on her flat work as she does not have the best joints. She has been on and off lame and we are struggling to get her fully fit. Gordon has decided to retire her".
